The 24-year-old goalkeeper arrived on a free transfer from relegated Middlesbrough, and has been settling in at training over the past three days. In that time he has worked with Petr Cech, renowned as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and his backup Hilario. He has found both perfectly accommodating. 'They have both been absolutely fantastic with me, it's great. They are both experienced goalkeepers and have helped me along,' he said. 'They both speak English and Christophe [Lollichon] the goalkeeper coach does, so it's getting used to it but as I say everybody has been great for me since I arrived. 'It will be an interesting season, we are all looking forward to it. He has been great, he loves to chat with the players and have a laugh with the lads, it is all good really and I am sure he will be a great asset to the club.' A vacancy in the squad for a goalkeeper with first-team experience existed at Stamford Bridge from the moment Carlo Cudicini left for Tottenham in January. The half-season wait to fill it allowed Chelsea to consider options carefully. Speaking during his first week training at his new club and clearly delighted he was the chosen one, the free-transfer signing voiced what he has learnt about the selection process. 'I believe it was the scouting system here and Cristophe [Lollichon], the goalkeeping coach, also had a say in it,' Turnbull explained. 'And I know when Middlesbrough played here at Stamford Bridge last season that he videoed my warm-up. 'I want to be as good as possible and if that is the way Chelsea want to play it, that is what I'll do and there is no reason why I can't command my area. I am a big lad and hopefully that is what I will be doing.
