However he still found time on Friday to have a brief chat with his new club's own channel and began by stating the reason why he moved from his homeland to London. 'It is one of the biggest clubs in the world and the right proposition came in and that is the main reason I decide to come to Chelsea,' Zhirkov told Chelsea TV. 'I never discussed Chelsea with the national team manager, Guus Hiddink. He only asked me at one point if I would like to play somewhere else in Europe and I said yes.' What Hiddink, who used a raiding Zhirkov to great effect during Russia's memorable Euro 2008 campaign, also knows is the versatility of the 25-year- old. 'At CSKA Moscow I mainly played as a left-back but the national team manager preferred me to play as an attacking left-back,' said the player who also told Chelsea TV he has yet to have a conversation with Carlo Ancelotti over his exact role in the coming season. What he does promise is not to curb his forward-running instincts. 'It is my style of football, it is my style of game. 'It is very good that we have some Russian-speaking players in the team,' Zhirkov concludes, having spent part of the week in conversation with Branislav Ivanovic, Petr Cech and Andriy Shevchenko. 'But I will try to learn English as quick as I can.'
