But with neither John Mikel Obi nor Michael Essien with enough training under their belts to start and Michael Ballack deployed further forward, it was the Portuguese international who was asked to play the anchor midfield role against Seattle Sounders. Reporting that the hamstring problem that ruined his end to last season is well in the past following the summer break, Deco told Chelseafc.com about his new role. 'It is the first time I play in that position but it is different when you have four midfielders because the others help defend and I have more space to play. I think this is important and I like it because it is mainly about distribution.'
