This time last year it was Anelka who was helping himself to four goals in a pre-season win over AC Milan in Moscow. That was with Drogba unavailable through injury, one of several reasons the two have rarely played in a front-two pairing. Another was tactical formations chosen by former managers but Guus Hiddink last season successfully utilised them in a three-man attack and now Carlo Ancelotti is trying for success with his new team shape. For the 63 minutes they were together against Milan in Baltimore, the signs were good reckons Anelka, for the attack and for the team as a whole. 'I think we worked very well in the first half,' he says of the overall display in the 2-1 win. 'I think maybe we were tired in the second half because of all the work we do in training, we have been training sometimes twice a day, but in the first half we looked fit and strong. 'It was a crazy goal, a big strike from far, it was wonderful goal,' was the Anelka analysis of the sixth-minute opener when Drogba found himself in space far from goal and decided to have a go. 'We have to change our positions and it depends on the situation of the game,' he explains. 'It is better sometimes for Didier to play deep and me to go behind the opponents' defence but we swap all the time and try to help the team. We want to play together and we know how to play together. 'We decide when to move depending on the situation and it is good to play together for the first time in a long time.' Anelka also had words on Yuri Zhirkov's Chelsea start that grew in strength until he fired in the winner, the goal coming after Zeljko Kalac, the same goalie the Frenchman had put to the sword in the 5-0 win in Moscow last summer, had not held Andriy Shevchenko's shot and Frank Lampard's follow up had been blocked. The Russian's attempt was low and accurate. 'Yuri played very well. He played like he has always played with Chelsea and it was good for him to score in his debut.
