As Carlo Ancelotti implements his new 4-4-2 diamond formation on the Blues, Ballack and his teammates have had to adjust to the Italian's new style. Speaking exclusively to Chelsea TV, Ballack said: 'It is a completely new system, a bit like the one we played under Jose Mourinho a few times, so some of the players know this system, but we still have to adapt. 'There are four in midfield and no wingers, a lot of different runs and different possession offensively and defensively, so we have to train a lot to get ready for the season.' That means two sessions a day, as the side absorb Ancelotti's style of play as well as building their fitness following the summer break. 'I am used to the pre-season sessions from Germany, so for me it is nothing new,' added Ballack. 'It works well [for your fitness levels], and then you can train during the session just once. 'But in pre-season you work harder, you train two or three times a day, and so everybody is looking forward to the beginning of the season, when it stops!' Ballack was forced to fly home early from Chelsea's recent tour of the US after injuring his foot, but following a reserve game yesterday afternoon, he is now ready to line-up with the first team. 'It was important that I came back quickly [from the tour], and it is important to have a reserve game like this to come back. Also, it's much more fun than training. 'The toe was broken and I needed a little break of one week, or 10 days, but I trained really well during this time in the water and on the bike and now I am happy to be back.
