Sam faces the press in Doha where she answers questions about her expectations for the event, her chances of being No.1 and the importance of Billie Jean King’s contribution to tennis and the forming of the WTA. Sam在Doha接受媒體採訪，內容涵蓋她對WTA創始人的看法，以及超級敏感的...爭奪世界第一寶座的夢想。 How do you rate getting to the year end Championships for the first time along with reaching a Grand Slam final as the best things that you’ve ever done? Yeah, I think for sure it’s definitely very high up on the list of achievements that I’ve been able to make. It shows that you’ve had a great year, so they’re two kind of different things, but both very rewarding. Q.你怎麼看待首次進入年終賽，以及今年獲得法網亞軍的殊榮，這是你經歷過最棒的事嗎？ A.這是毫無疑問的，是目前為止我生涯的高峰（以前當雙打球后也很棒耶），這些成績說明了我經歷了很棒的一年，雖然拿亞　軍和年終賽是兩回事（沒有亞軍績分妳哪能來這裡...），但同樣意義非凡。 What’s the key to getting here? Is it physical fitness or planning your schedule or what? I think it’s a mixture of things. Obviously you’ve got to stay healthy for a big period of the year to be able to play enough events and do well and obviously have enough wins. I think scheduling plays a big part as well, and, yeah, I guess performing at the big events. This year I’ve had some really good results in big tournaments, and also missed a few and not done so well. So I think to be able to make it still with not being able to play a couple of those big tournaments I think kind of shows that I’ve had a good year. Q.所以引領妳來此地的關鍵是什麼？是身體健康（頭好壯壯）還是　妳對排賽程很有一套？或是其它因素？ A.我想你說的那些都有影響。當然你必須一直維持健康狀態一整年　，才能參加足夠的比賽，更重要的是還要贏得夠多才行。　　賽程安排在這當中扮演很重要的角色，我今年在一些大比賽有不　錯的成績，但也錯過了一些機會，沒能做到最好。但總結下來還　算是不錯的一年。　　 Coming into the tournament, what’s your expectations for this? What’s the key to winning it for you? I would love to obviously get through the round robin stage. From there you never know. First things first. You’ve got to play three matches and see how you go there. It’s tough conditions outside. It’s very hot and humid. So I think conditioning and really being able to get used to the heat before playing those matches is going to be key. And then you’ve got to play well. You’re playing the best players in the world, so you can’t go out there and, I guess, play averagely and expect to get through. I think in a way that kind of takes pressure off, knowing that you have to play well to get through. Yeah, you’ve got to give it your best and go for it. I think the players who can I guess do that day in, day out through this round robin period will be the ones to get through. Q.對你而言參加年終賽，有什麼期望，以及你認為獲勝的關鍵點是什麼？ A.我想先通過小組循環賽，然後才能確定我能否繼續走得更遠，外面真的　非常熱而且很潮濕，有點讓人難受的天氣，在比賽前我必須先適應這裡　的高溫，這會是關鍵之一。　然後我必須打的超棒。對手都是世界頂尖的佼佼者，不能只是走到那裡　發揮的普普就期望能獲勝。不過這樣想，反倒讓我沒壓力地放開來打，　因為我明白必須向自我極限挑戰。　總之就是盡情發揮＆追逐勝利啦～。 You’ve already played in this event a couple of times in doubles. You won it. What’s the difference? Were you at times jealous about the other girls playing the singles tournament here? Sure, I would have always loved to be here for singles and not just doubles. Yeah, it’s a little bit different being in the singles when obviously you have all of this kind of stuff to do. A lot more goes into the singles event than the doubles. I think maybe having a little taste in the previous years is gonna help me hopefully. Yeah, I guess it’s an extra a little bit special being in the singles event. Q.妳以前曾打過雙打年終賽而且還獲勝了（拍手），跟這次有什麼不同？　那時你會羨慕其他參加單打年終賽的選手嗎？ A.我超羨慕的！我一直都很想打單打年終，而不是只有侷限在雙打，不過　是有點不一樣啦，打單打好像比較受媒體矚目，然後我一直在參加諸如　類的行程，比雙打來的多很多。希望我過去打雙打年終的經驗，能稍稍　派上用場，整體來說打單打比較特別一點。　 With it being 40 years on since the original Virginia Slims event which Billie Jean King started, what respect do the current players have for the original nine that broke away 40 years ago? Without them, who knows if we would be here now or whether it would be who knows when this could have or may have happened. I think we’ve really got to say thank you to those nine, especially Billie Jean, to stand up not just for women’s tennis but women in general. Q.自從WTA創始靈魂人物－Billie Jean King，首次舉辦女子賽事，已屆滿　４０年了，你認為那９位創始人在哪方面，影響了現今女子球員？ A.沒有她們，我們現在就不知身在何處，會面臨怎樣的待遇，真的非常感謝　那９個人，尤其是Billie Jean大姐，不只是站出來為女子網壇爭取權益，　也影響了全部的女人。 Does seeing Wozniacki get to No. 1 give you extra encouragement that even though you’re older you still have it in you to get to the top? Yeah, I would like to think so. I’m where I am now and definitely striving to get higher. Yeah, I’m a little bit older than Caroline, but I still feel young enough to be able to play out here for another four or five years yet. It’s the best time of my career so far, so I think to be able to look forward and ahead is, yeah, it’s bright, I think. If I can keep going the way I’m going, hopefully I can get up there or close to there as well.
