Lazio's Stefano Mauri is eyeing a spot in Italy's starting line-up
for the Euro 2008 clash with Ukraine in Rome on Saturday.
“It would be amazing for me to play at the Stadio Olimpico
with the Azzurri jersey,” said the midfielder
who made his international debut in November 2004.
2004年十一月在國家隊初登場的 Mauri說：
「能在奧林匹克體育場穿著義大利國家隊球衣出賽對我來說就太美好了。」
“I was hoping the Coach would include me in his list and I will now do
all I can to convince him that I deserve a chance on the pitch,”
added the 26-year-old, who scored his side's final goal
in their 4-0 drubbing of Torino at the weekend.
「我曾希望教練能把我選進大名單，現在會盡力說服他我有實力站上賽場。」
Mauri could be drafted into the line-up given the uncertainty over
the fitness of full-back Fabio Grosso, with Roberto Donadoni
therefore forced to revise his plans on the left flank.
“We will train during the week and I am sure we will all prove that
we want to do well, but the Coach will be the one to decide,”
continued Mauri.

“I feel very well and I want to thank Lazio
for showing their trust in me, I hope things continue to improve.

“I consider myself a midfielder who can also do well upfront,
I like to start on the wings to then move to the centre.
If Donadoni included me in his side then I think I can be useful.”
「我認為自己是個中場球員，不過在鋒線也能幹得不錯，
我喜歡在兩翼先發登場然後再挪到中路，
如果 Donadoni選上我，那我相信自己就能有所助益。」
Mauri also dismissed speculation suggesting that some sections of
the capital crowd on Saturday may not be totally supportive of
the world champions.
“It would be an exciting feeling for me to play at the Olimpico
and I am sure that we will have all the support we need
from the Roman fans,”he added.
「對我來說能在奧林匹克球場比賽讓人感覺很興奮，
我確信我們能從羅馬球迷得到需要的全面支持。」
“We are all aware that the match with Ukraine is important,
but we are also trying to remain serene.
「我們都知道對烏克蘭這一戰很重要，不過我們也試著保持平靜。」
“We know that this side can do well. The world champions are still
hungry for victories and want to prove their value.”
「我們知道這隻球隊能幹得不錯，
世界冠軍們仍對勝利感到饑渴，也打算證明自己的實力。」
