簡述--
Hoddle turned to the First Division again for a striker, with ￡2.3 million
spent on Paul Furlong. However, neither he nor Stein top-scored as Spencer
headed the way with 8 goals in the first 14 games. The goals soon dried up,
however, and Chelsea became the first team to have 10 match winless sequences
in consecutive years.
Rocastle was a bitter disappointment on his return to London and with Wise out
for more than half the season it was left to Peacock to provide the creative
touch from his old-fashioned inside-forward position. The end of season signing
of Gullit promised to solve this problem
