Icon quest approaches final whistle

Football Icon, Chelsea's quest to find the British soccer star of
the next generation is reaching its climax. The seventh and penultimate
programme is being broadcast on Sky One at 7pm Sunday.
Six weeks of intensive training in Chelsea's Youth Academy is coming
to an end for the final three hopefuls, selected week-by-week from
thousands of original 16-18 year-old trialists tested across the nation.
Mark Gradosielski from Essex, Sam Hurrell from Ickenham and Idemudia
Okojie from London are in competition to impress the most and win a
professional contract at Chelsea for the rest of the 2005-6 season.
Already they have not looked out of place amongst Chelsea's existing
teenage players and in programme seven, they have the chance to prove
themselves in a match against a Northern Ireland Under 17 team. They also
taste the Premiership lifestyle that could be theirs with a trip to the
world premiere of the football film Goal! and a spot of media training
with Chelsea TV.
In the remaining weeks they will travel abroad to combine football
training and sightseeing during trips to Holland and Korea. The three will
return to Chelsea for a final play-off game in front of expert eyes,
including Academy manager Neil Bath and midfield legend Ray Wilkins,
before one is crowned the nation’s football icon.
