Until now they have often had to travel abroad to find western standards of medical care. He also backs a fund to help to train young health professionals. Expensive private clinics catering for the rich have sprung up but most of the elite head west when they need a top specialist. Without greasing the palms of doctors and nurses, patients are condemned to long queues and negligent care.
