interested in making a bid to takeover the Blues with the sanctioning of
owner Roman Abramovich expected to quicken the sale process of the club

British billionaire Nick Candy has confirmed he is still pursuing a bid
for Chelsea, with the sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich expected to
quicken the sale process once the confusion created by the extraordinary
events has been clarified.

The 49-year-old property developer is a Chelsea fan, who is planning to
attend Sunday's Premier League home match against Newcastle and has
pledged to put supporters at the centre of his plans for the club that
will be jointly-funded with American investors.

Candy is in talks with several potential investors over a joint venture,
with the fact that the sale now has to be officially approved by the
government doing little to dampen interest.

Sportsmail has learned that Abramovich rejected an offer of just under
￡2billion from one American group earlier this week, and given the level
of interest, the eventual sale price is likely to exceed that amount,
although none of the money would go to the Russian or any of his
charitable projects.

This belief appears to be shared by other buyers, with a ￡2bn-plus bid

The terms of the emergency licence the government granted do not permit
the club to be sold, but a government spokesman confirmed they will
consider an application for a new licence to allow for a sale.

Abramovich has been given little choice but to accept a quick sale, while

although wrote to several interested parties on Thursday saying 'the

Sky News has learnt that Sir Martin Broughton, a lifelong Chelsea fan, has
held discussions in recent days about playing a role in bids being
prepared by Todd Boehly, the LA Dodgers baseball team's part-owner, and
Josh Harris, a backer of the Philadelphia 76ers basketball side.
One insider said that any bid for Chelsea that Sir Martin was involved in
would need to reserve an ownership stake in the club for supporters - a
decision that would be expected to win government backing as it prepares
to respond to former sports minister Tracey Crouch's review of football
governance.
Sky News can also reveal that Jonathan Goldstein, a London-based investor
who owns the Prezzo chain of restaurants, is part of Mr Boehly's
consortium that is battling to gain control of Chelsea. The third member
of their consortium is Hansjorg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire who is reported
to have a long-standing relationship with Mr Abramovich.

A spokesperson for Mr Candy told Sky News on Sunday: "We welcome the news
that the sale of the club will be conducted quickly. This is a reassuring
development for fans after a week of great uncertainty.
"Mr Candy cares hugely about the future of the club and believes that the
fans and the community are central to its continued success. Should his
bid be successful, Mr Candy would advocate for a fan representative to
join the board so supporters become part of the decision-making process.
"If the club requires money to operate in the short term, Mr Candy would
be happy to help ensure it has the necessary financial resources, subject
to government approval."
