The Croatian has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury in Seville before the second leg of our Champions League quarter-final tie against Porto last month. During such a busy period Kovacic's absence has been felt, and Tuchel underlined the significance of his return when he addressed the media via videolink this afternoon. 'Kova is with us again,' reported the boss. 'It's huge. Mateo has everything we need in midfield. He has experience, power, acceleration, deceleration, he can dribble with the ball and beat players, he is fast and has physical ability. https://i.imgur.com/G3iAFIn.jpg
'You could see when we missed Mateo and N'Golo in the same match we lacked quality and energy and experience. Billy [Gilmour] did a huge job in both games, but it's still not fair to compare him to these players because they have more experience and they are a step ahead in their development. 'It's what we need in the key moments of the season at the end of the season. It's big news for us Kova is back. He has a huge impact in the dressing room also and is a very positive guy.' Kante wasn't involved against Arsenal but Tuchel confirmed his availability 'We took the decision together, N'Golo, me and the medical team, to give him the Arsenal match to rest and have treatment to the right Achilles, I think. 'It was pain management, not a huge injury, nothing to be afraid of getting bigger. It was just there and it was a bit annoying. He did all training sessions yesterday and today, no complaints. He will start tomorrow and very likely he will finish the game for us.' We have two huge fixtures against Leicester in four days, and Tuchel was asked which is more important 'I cannot judge it. These are two finals and we don't think about anything else. We missed the chance against Arsenal to get a decisive advantage. We have to cope with it and first of all show a reaction in Wembley to have the upper hand on Tuesday. 'It's a bit curious we play two finals against the same team. It will be very tough and complicated, but we feel ready for it. It's the moment to step up and enjoy on the highest level. By enjoying we mean hard work, suffer, and help each other out on the pitch. https://i.imgur.com/c0FI6Hu.jpg
Tuchel will lead Chelsea out in a final for the first time 'I am not yet in the mode to enjoy it,' added Tuchel. 'I still have a bit of a hangover from the last defeat. It's always like this. I am a bit more in angry mode, not at myself or the players, just because of the opportunity we missed. 'When we arrive at the hotel I will hopefully transform it into a good preparation and push the team to the edge so they play sharp. This is my responsibility. 'We have to show a reaction. It's a big match, an FA Cup final, my first final here in England. It's huge, but I will never get carried away with the emotions tomorrow. I am fully focused to prepare my team better than we did two days ago.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2021/05/14/ tuchel--it-brings-out-the-very-best-in-you Tuchel: It brings out the very best in you 14 May 2021 Thomas Tuchel has revealed he is relishing the 'unbelievable' prospect of leading Chelsea out for an FA Cup final in front of fans at Wembley Stadium. https://i.imgur.com/afDgXcL.jpg
We take on Leicester City at Wembley Stadium in tomorrow's FA Cup final, with the opportunity to get our hands on our first piece of silverware under Tuchel. However, there is already one reward for our making it this far in the competition, as the match will be played in front of around 21,000 fans, including 6,250 Chelsea supporters, meaning Tuchel will finally get his first experience of a Blues match in front of fans, and it is one he cannot wait to enjoy. 'It's unbelievable,' said our head coach. 'I got so used to not having spectators, maybe it will be a shock tomorrow to go on the pitch and hear some noise, but it will be so nice. https://i.imgur.com/o0ErFQg.jpg
'We are absolutely looking forward to that. The game is not the same without spectators and it's a pure pleasure to know we will arrive tomorrow and see our fans there, see parts of our families. I think it's a huge boost for everybody.' For someone who appreciates the history of Wembley Stadium and it's unique place in English, and world, football culture, the presence of fans will no doubt add to the gravity of the moment on Saturday afternoon, after Tuchel's initial introduction to the famous old ground was at an empty one in our semi-final victory over Manchester City. 'I remember the old Wembley Stadium, seeing it on TV. It was not so easy to see games from abroad in those days, so when I could see some of these games I could feel different shirts, different players, different atmospheres in the stadium. https://i.imgur.com/HpcaAQA.jpg
Tuchel can't wait to see the Chelsea fans at Wembley 'I remember the old Wembley Stadium and of course the name of the stadium is a big name in Germany and all of Europe, so it was huge for me to have the possibility to coach a team in the semi-finals and now it's even bigger to have the possibility in my first season to coach a final there.' Of course, it's not just the venue and return of the Chelsea fans that has the German excited by the prospect of taking on Leicester at Wembley, with the FA Cup trophy also up for grabs. As he explains, cup finals always bring out a special feeling for all those involved, with the trophy within touching distance as all the hard work put in during the campaign comes down to one 90-minute match. 'Both teams are so close and the hunger increases,' he added. 'The desire once you arrive in the final, you build the pressure yourself. You don't feel so close when you start a cup competition in the first and second round. You know it's going to be tough and you know where you want to go, but it's not the same tension that builds up inside of you. 'Because you are so close, the cup is right there and you know that this is the last match and you never know when it will be possible to arrive again, that builds the unique circumstances and you can feel this in the preparation, in the training, in the approach to the match and the concentration level. https://i.imgur.com/RBfR1CY.jpg
'It is different to be in a final. It's the best thing to have in high level sport, it brings out the very best in you and you have to cope with it. It's a big gift to have it and hopefully we can show our best performance tomorrow.' He also feels that competing in big matches like this with a club like Chelsea, and the winning mentality that goes with it, adds extra motivation for him and his players, for this game and those still to come. 'Once you arrive in a final with Chelsea you want to win the final and nothing else. It's huge because it's a final and when you are so close to a title you want to win the title. I'm not any different from any player or staff member here in that. We are Chelsea and we are about winning and want to win titles, and as many titles as possible.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2021/05/15/ revealed--the-thomas-tuchel-way-to-prepare-for-a-cup-final Revealed: The Thomas Tuchel way to prepare for a cup final 15 May 2021 It is not a time for new tricks explains the Chelsea head coach… https://i.imgur.com/uGEnich.jpg
Thomas Tuchel will experience his first FA Cup final today when he becomes the first German to manage a team in the deciding match of football's oldest club competition, but he has plenty of experience of cup finals during his previous roles in his homeland and in France. While no two finals are the same and football culture may vary between nations, Tuchel's experience has taught him how to navigate through the occasion, both on a team level and personally, and he admits nervousness may be involved. Firstly, the Chelsea head coach, who will also contest the Champions League final this month for a second year in a row, discusses how he likes to prepare players in the days immediately leading up to a cup final. 'What is needed in the situation is to trust my feelings and trust the feelings of my staff, trust also the data, and the general rule is that the more tension, the more decisive a game is, the less new information we give. 'We try to do the training sessions in the most easy way - short sessions, clear sessions – and it is not the moment to learn new stuff, to implement new tactical tricks. https://i.imgur.com/2C3dKV4.jpg
Kante and Chilwell training yesterday ahead of facing their old club 'It's the moment to be confident and to be well aware of what our style of play is, what we do good, what our strengths are, and encourage the players to be on their top level.' Tuchel recalls that ahead of one of first finals, when in charge at Borussia Dortmund, he lightened the mood in the final training by taking the gloves from his 'keeper and going in goal himself to try to save the shots. 'I gave a lot of confidence to my players!' he smiles, clearly not rating his own goalie skills. 'You cannot do it artificially, sometimes it happens, and anything that can mean laughter is always very welcome,' he adds. 'But if you try too hard to make the group smile, it will not happen. It has to come naturally. https://i.imgur.com/DQBJVlJ.jpg
Tuchel with the German Cup won with Dortmund 'It's normal the tension will grow. Once we arrive in Wembley, there will be a certain energy in the air that you cannot be prepared for. You will feel it and then adapt to it and go for it. Embrace the challenge and do what we all love on the very best level.' Although Tuchel's children are too young to be at Wembley tomorrow, his wife will be there to watch a Chelsea game live for the first time with her husband in charge. Looking at himself, Tuchel has his own pre-match routine although he admits he does not follow it religiously. It is not set in stone. 'Normally the night before, I try to do sports. This time the team stays in a hotel so we have a meal together, and maybe we talk some situations and we watch some video footage from Leicester again to be prepared for the next morning. 'Then usually I try to wake up early and do some sports, some meditation for 20 minutes - breathe in, breathe out, eyes closed trying hard to do nothing. And then be ready to prepare the first meeting. https://i.imgur.com/Iop9XAd.jpg
Tuchel with staff and team on a pre-match walk in Seville earlier in the season 'I have my ups and downs,' he adds. 'Sometimes I'm very disciplined, sometimes I'm not so disciplined, but I think it's normal to be excited and it's normal to be nervous. Sometimes it can catch me before normal matches and sometimes you feel a little more relaxed and calm even if the pressure is on. 'If it's a huge match it depends. I haven't figured out a certain pattern, but it's normal for a certain amount [of nerves]. It's important because then you are well aware of everything.' Time will tell if Tuchel experiences special Wembley nerves during a special football day.
