The Return of Djalminha
On Saturday midfielder Djalminha played his first match as starter
in this season. This fact hadn’t occurred since the season 2001/2002.
In March of 2002 the team played the Copa del Rey final against Madrid,
the famous Centenariazo, and Jabo decided to use alternative players
for the match after it in Riazor against Rayo Vallecano.

The performance of Djalminha was good during the match in the La Rosaleda
stadium, especially in the first half. The team was concentrated and
dominated the match during most of the first half, and the Brazilian
player was the main factor behind this work. After the match Djalma showed
his happiness for having this opportunity: “I played ninety minutes and
I have to say that I was very comfortable on the pitch".

Before the match against Malaga, Djalminha had played nine matches this
season, all of them has a substitute. In those matches he scored two goals:
the first against Mallorca and the second against Valladolid from the
penalty spot. The Brazilian midfielder said before the match against
Valladolid that he expected to start this match, but his debut as a
starter was postponed for one more week.
With the important matches against Real Madrid and Porto in the next
weeks, the work and the magic of Djalma could be crucial. After all, he
was one of the key players for the Liga win in the season 1999/2000.
