Hantuchova struggles for first win at Qatar

Hantuchova yesterday beat Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic with a 7-6 (7-4),
5-7, 6-1 score-line in her opening match at the $600,000 Qatar Open.
Hantuchova needed two hours and 48 minutes to overcome her Czech opponent. The
fifth seed said she was expecting a tough encounter against Peschke.
"Kveta is an experienced player so I was expecting it to be a tough match. I
was ready to battle out against her. I can say that I made the match difficult
for myself with some careless shots," Hantuchova said.
"I made the second set very difficult for myself, but I managed to turn it
around in the third set. That was the best part of my match.
How I turned around the match in my favor gave me a lot of satisfaction," the
Slovakian added. "At the moment, I am pleased about my game."
Hantuchova will play Na Li of China in the second round on Wednesday.
Li beat Vera Zvonarava of Russia in their first-round clash on Monday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Eleni Daniilidou of Greece registered an easy win against
Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain. Daniilidou won 6-4, 6-3.
In another one-sided match, Maria Kirilenko of Russia booked a place in the
second round by beating Li Ting of China. Kirillenko won 6-2,6-4 in 80 minutes.
Also to sign in for the second round was Marion Bartoli of France.
Bartoli beat qualifier Shikha Uberoi of India in straight sets.
Bartoli won 6-0, 7-6 (7-5).
Julia Scruff of Germany beat Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine to secure a berth in
the third round. Scruff won 6-3, 6-3.
Ai Sugiyama of Japan stopped wild card entry Selima Safr of Tunisia.
Sugiyama won 6-3, 6-3 in 68 minutes.
Top seed Amelie Mauresmo of France, second seed Nadia Petrova of Russia, third
seed Francesco Schiavone of Italy and fourth seed Anastasia Myskina of Russia
will be seen in action for the first time in the tournament on Wednesday. All
four players received a bye in the first-round.
