[分享] Blair's neck, wingspan fit Bobcats' needs at forward

Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown joked Friday that he prefers all his big
men have short necks and long arms.
That was Brown's way of saying he isn't troubled by the height of
Pittsburgh's DeJuan Blair, who measured 6-5 1/4 in his stocking feet at the
NBA combine. That seems quite short for a power forward, until you consider
Blair's extraordinary 7-2 wingspan.
Blair's dimensions are similar to those of former Charlotte Hornet Larry
Johnson. Johnson was a tremendous rebounder until he hurt his back, and Blair
had three games of 20 or more rebounds in two seasons at Pittsburgh.
“I always look for guys who have no neck and long arms,” Brown said. “So
he'll be a (power forward) and he'll do well.”
Blair was the most prominent of six players auditioning for the Bobcats
Friday. He anticipates being drafted between picks 10 and 20, so it's logical
for the Bobcats to consider him with the 12 {+t}{+h} pick. And there's little
doubt the Bobcats could use another power forward.
What Blair lacks in height he makes up for with incredible strength. His
signature moment from last season was when he locked up with Connecticut
center Hasheem Thabeet under the basket. Blair was so strong, he flipped
Thabeet to the floor with one of his arms.
The measurable Blair could control was his weight. He was bulky in both his
college seasons. Since the winter, he's dropped about 35 pounds to a weight
of 276.
“It helped a lot in conditioning and the health of my knees,” Blair said. “
I'm lighter, more explosive and quicker. It's all about maintaining that, and
I did a good job of that on this little road trip I had.”
Blair hired a nutritionist with the goal of losing weight without losing
strength.
“Just working out and eating right. Staying in the weight room late and
doing a lot of extra stuff to get my body right,” Blair said.
So what was the hardest food to give up?
“Pizza. And I don't eat a lot of bread,” Blair said of the low-carb
regimen. “All grilled chicken, things like that.”
CURRY UPDATE: Davidson's Stephen Curry is shutting down further pre-draft
workouts beyond one previously scheduled with the Washington Wizards,
according to his father, Dell.
Curry had a strong workout with the New York Knicks Wednesday, and the family
is hoping other teams will pass over him so he can go eighth to New York.
