They're among the 11 other Celtics who've worn the number 34 on their jersey
for the Boston Celtics.

And then there's Paul Pierce, who's worn No. 34 since his rookie season in
1998, and if his career continues on the path it's headed, he'll likely be the
last to ever wear the number here in Boston.

So how did Pierce choose #34?

"My sophomore year in high school, it was the biggest jersey, the only one I
could fit into at the time," said Pierce, who played at Inglewood High School
in Inglewood, CA, in the shadows of the Great Western Forum, where the
Los Angeles Lakers played during Pierce's

Pierce went on to star at the University of Kansas in college, and wore #34 for
three seasons with the Jayhawks.

"There's no real reason, but I've got my number so I might as well stick with
it. I wore it all through high school, and when I got to college I wore it,"
said Pierce.

After his junior year at Kansas, the Celtics drafted him 10th overall in the
1998 NBA Draft. Knowing a little bit about Celtics history from growing up
watching the Lakers, Pierce only had one concern about becoming a Celtic. Was
his No. 34 already in the rafters?

"I'm just thankful that they never retired it here with the Celtics," said

Mike Bibby #10 Kings
For Mike Bibby, the number 10 not only represents his uniform number, it
represents a lifestyle.

Originally picked because the term “dime” is basketball slang for a nice
pass, number 10 has been on Mike’s back through high school, college and into
the NBA, eventually becoming the point guard’s trademark symbol.
起初選擇10號的原因是這個字“dime”－籃球場上俗稱的妙傳，這個背號已經陪 Bibby
渡過了高中、大學和 NBA，最後變成這個控球後衛的註冊商標。
The number has even translated off the court, where Mike’s family and friends,
a close-knit support group, are referred to as Team Dime. The nickname began in
Vancouver during Bibby’s rookie year, when current teammate Shareef
Abdur-Rahim dubbed Mike and his group Team Bibby, which was quickly turned by
Bibby’s brother Dane into its current and extremely popular form.
這個數字已經被延伸到了場外，Bibby 的家庭和朋友被稱作 Team Dime。這個綽號來自於

“That’s the first time it had even been said,” said Dane. “After that it
just stuck. Stayed right there forever.”

"I’ve just always had that number. I wore it in high school and college, and I
had a lot of people in my family before me wear it," said Mike, who had both
his high school and college jerseys retired. "I plan to take it down from the
rafters at Arizona and (my) high school so (my son) Michael can wear it when he
comes and plays.”
