Pirates sign lefty Tallet to Minor League deal http://0rz.tw/0m8wB Brian Tallet, a 34-year-old left-hander who has had some Major League success as a matchup reliever, has been signed to a Minor League contract by the Pirates. Tallet saw limited action last season due to a pair of injuries, a broken left hand and a strain of his right intercostal muscle. He had 18 outings with the Cardinals before being packaged with outfielder Colby Rasmus in a July 27 trade with the Blue Jays, with whom he subsequently made only one appearance between a Minor League rehab assignment and his outright release on Sept. 5. In the 19 games, Tallet had a combined ERA of 9.45. However, as a member of Toronto's rotation in 2009, Tallet went 7-9 in 25 starts. Reassigned to the bullpen in 2010, Tallet held left-handed hitters to a .176 average in 102 at-bats. The Oklahoma native has a career record of 16-25 with a 4.79 ERA in nine seasons, predominantly as a reliever. He was originally Cleveland's second-round choice in the 2000 First-Year Player Draft. Tallet's assignment for 2012 has not yet been determined.
