Rays pick up Yandy Diaz’s 2026 option, add another
FORT MYERS — Heading into his seventh season with the Rays, Yandy Diaz said he
likes playing for the team so much he hopes to stay for the rest of his career.
He took another step in that direction Friday, agreeing to a deal in which the R
ays picked up his $12 million option for 2026 in return for adding another optio
n that covers the 2027 season.
“The motivation was the team,“ Diaz, 33, said via team interpreter Eddie Rodri
guez. “I love it here, the team is great, and I want to finish my career here.
”
There are two prongs to the 2027 option. If Diaz in 2026 makes 500 plate appeara
nces (which he did each of the past four seasons), the option vests for $13 mill
ion. If he falls short, it becomes a team option for $10 million, with no buyout
