His four-goal display at Tottenham in a breathtaking 5-1 win was one of, possibly THE, individual display of the season, memorable for the diversity of his goals as well as their quality. His two goals in the 6-1 mauling of United were not pivotal, but to every Blue on the planet they were moments of pure, unadulterated joy, worth his ￡27million transfer fee on their own. It was also Dzeko's fine individual goal which set the ball rolling at Loftus Road in a vital 3-2 victory at QPR, while his glancing header at Wigan in January eked out three valuable points in a 1-0 win. There have been down sides to his game, too, times in which you wondered what on earth he was all about. The poverty of his performance at Bayern Munich, when he was petulant and angry at rightly being substituted, was overshadowed by subsequent events involving Carlos Tevez. And when the 6ft 3ins striker was pitted against a depleted Everton defence which averaged out at 5ft 9ins, he didn't win a thing in the air or on the deck all night, and the Blues lost an important game. If Mancini was simply looking at repeating the Blues' Premier League heroics, a foursome of Aguero, Tevez, Balotelli and Dzeko would be more than adequate. But the Italian has already set his sights on new horizons, and will want to make a big impression on the Champions League, as well as defending the title. He has suffered from City's style of play, with no conventional wingers supplying crosses for him – when Samir Nasri got into wide positions at Spurs, Dzeko made hay. It looks like Balotelli will be given another chance, so Dzeko is the one of the four strikers who looks vulnerable if a van Persie or a Cavani is to come in. As Juve or Bayern could also afford to repay up to two-thirds of the ￡27million fee, Dzeko's stay at City will have been highly profitable for both parties. His goals have been worth millions, but an amicable parting might just be the best way forward.
