Following a disappointing loss to South Korea, Greece attacker Georgios
Samaras was hopeful of his team's chances to qualify for the knockout
rounds of the World Cup.
"We are hoping for the best. There are two more games, difficult games,
against tough countries, but we will do our best," the Celtic forward
told Goal.com. "We will try to do better and get a better result."
Greece, who qualified for the World Cup after winning a playoff against
Ukraine, suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Koreans. When asked
whether he was surprised at how well South Korea played, Samaras
replied, "They are of course a good team, but I think in the end we
lost due to our own mistakes. We lost those two goals and didn't take
our chances.
"We won a lot of corners but didn't do our best with them and so we
couldn't get the goal to get us back into the game. We're disappointed
but there's no time to think about what has happened," he concluded.
Greece have their backs against the wall as they look to survive a
competitive Group B. Their next match will is a must-win clash against
Nigeria, to be played on Thursday. Five days later, Otto Rehhagel's men
face off against group favourites Argentina.
