WASHINGTON — Marlins outfielder Luis Gonzalez doesn't know when he'll
retire, but there's a milestone that's definitely on his radar.

"One of my goals is to get 3,000 hits, but that's a long way to go," he said.
"It's a great accomplishment, but for me, it's tougher now because of the
role that I play."

Gonzalez, 40, went into Friday with 2,523 career hits, 477 shy of the mark.
But Gonzalez was signed as a bench player for the first time in his career,
meaning he won't get as many at-bats as he had in the past.
