After sweeping Diamondbacks, Marlins give Giants' Zito his first win
MIAMI GARDENS — Two nights after handing Arizona ace Brandon Webb his first
loss of the season, the Marlins gave Barry Zito his first victory.

"Anything can happen in baseball, just leave it at that," Marlins starter
Scott Olsen said Friday night, trying to explain Florida's 8-2 loss to Zito,
who entered the game with an 0-8 record, and the struggling Giants.

The Marlins came into the game riding high after sweeping three games from
the first-place Diamondbacks, including a 3-1 win Wednesday against Webb, who
had won his first nine starts of the season.

Marlins pitchers allowed just three runs in the series against Arizona, but
Olsen matched that total by the third inning Friday.

Rookie Brett Carroll, in his first start since April 5, suffered a badly
sprained right shoulder when he crashed into the right-field wall chasing
Aaron Rowand's home run in the fourth inning.

After getting helped to his feet, Carroll left the game. He expects to be put
on the disabled list today with what he described as a "Level 2" separation.

"It felt like a car wreck when I hit the wall," Carroll said after the game
with his shoulder in a sling. "Where my collarbone connects to my shoulder,

had his worst start of the season, giving up seven runs (five earned) on
eight hits in just 31/3 innings.

At least Dan Uggla had another big night for the Marlins. The second baseman

The Marlins were put in an early hole in the first inning when third baseman
Jorge Cantu made his 10th error of the season on a grounder by Jose Castillo,
allowing San Francisco to score two unearned runs.

Olsen got through the second inning with just a walk, but the Giants batted
nine times in the third inning, beginning with three consecutive singles that

big lead and maybe that helped settle him down a little bit."

ERA rose to 3.38 after entering the game at 2.82, eighth in the NL.
