Marlins add to Mets' misery
NEW YORK — The Marlins feel awful about the media frenzy engulfing Mets
manager Willie Randolph, whose job has come under intense scrutiny because of
his team's poor play.

surging Marlins celebrated on the field after their 7-3 victory over the
slumping Mets.

Luis Gonzalez's three-run double made the difference as Florida kicked off an
important road trip against divisional opponents by winning for the seventh
time in 10 games. The Marlins, with a major-league low $22 million payroll,
maintained their 21/2-game lead in first place and moved 10 games over .500
for the first time since Sept. 14, 2005.

it a lot easier going into August and September, especially if you can beat
up on teams in your own division.''

Ricky Nolasco (4-3) wasn't sharp. He allowed three runs on nine hits in five
innings. But he won for the third time in his past four starts.

"He battled,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "He made some pitches when he had

The Marlins took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on doubles by Mike Jacobs and
Dan Uggla off starter Mike Pelfrey. The Mets tied it in their first at-bat

Delgado's sacrifice fly.

With a runner on first, Mike Jacobs drew a walk and Uggla was hit in the arm
by a pitch to load the bases. Gonzalez hit a sinking liner that fell in front
of, then skipped past center fielder Carlos Beltran to clear the bases and
give Florida a 5-3 lead. Gonzalez scored on Matt Treanor's single.

Recently acquired Jacque Jones made a jumping grab at the center-field fence
in the bottom of the eighth to save a run and rob Nick Evans of extra bases.

Hanley Ramirez made some nice defensive plays. But he cost the Marlins a
scoring chance in the fourth after he led off with a walk and advanced to
second on Hermida's fly out to center.
