The Mavericks have interest in signing Peja Stojakovic, assuming he finalizes
a buyout from the Toronto Raptors and clears waivers, both of which are
expected to happen.
A couple of NBA sources said today that the Mavericks will pursue Stojakovic,
the 33-year-old gunner who had terrific seasons at Sacramento and New Orleans
before being dealt to Toronto earlier this season.
The Mavericks may not have to jettison Sasha Pavlovic to make room for
Stojakovic. The sources said the Mavericks are leaning toward keeping
Pavlovic, who was impressive in the first of his two 10-day contracts,
playing well despite a broken nose.
That means the Mavericks would have to clear a roster spot some other way to
make room for Stojakovic. The obvious option would be to waive Alexis Ajinca,
the project center who has shown flashes of ability but remains more
potential than ready-made contributor.
