[外電] Kidd still plays like an All-Star(下)
------
(續)
"But Jason really is a legitimate point guard in a day where there are not
only few in this league, but in this world," explained Nets/YES Network
analyst Mark Jackson, who ranks second in career assists after a 16-year
NBA career.
"There are not many guys playing the point guard position the way it's
supposed to be played. He may very well be the last guy to do that. He can
score. He can shoot. But he's as good at running a team as anybody that's
played this game."
To Kidd, a seven-time All-Star who played in five straight All-Star games
from 2000-04, this legacy is important now — even if it wasn't important
when he was a can't-miss prodigy out of Alameda, Calif.
"You try to have an influence in some phase of the game," Kidd said.
"Whether it's pushing the ball or running the fast break or if it's
rebounding as a guard, you want to have an impact on the game. Hopefully,
I've done that."
Hall of Famer Bill Walton used to broadcast Kidd's games at St. Joseph of
Notre Dame High School when he first began as an analyst — and he believes
Kidd will never change the way he plays because he hasn't so far.
Joseph of Notre Dame高中的比賽
And he believes Kidd is a no-brainer to be enshrined with him in
Springfield, Mass.
"When he was in high school, it was unbelievable," Walton said. "My wife
Laurie was always enamored with his eyes, but for different reasons than
I was. For me, it was his vision, his passion, his consistency, his
creativity and his imagination.
"I honestly feel if he wasn't a basketball player, he would be a rock star
like Bruce Springsteen."
Of course, both were born to run.
For Kidd, if his glory days are past, it doesn't mean there won't be better
days ahead. Both Jackson and Walton say Kidd is a "first-ballot" Hall of
Famer. But Kidd said he can still do more to cement his case.
"I would say as you approach maybe the downhill of your career, you start
to think, "Did I do everything to make it?' " he said. "Because at that
point, you've pretty much set the foundation if you're going to be a Hall
of Famer. In those years, you're not going to get the minutes or the touches
to play catch-up.
"You play the game to win and I've always looked at it as a team game, and
not individually. So to be able to be mentioned as a Hall of Famer, that's
a dream come true, because that means you've done everything you're
supposed to do. Even if you don't win a championship, you were consistent
by bringing it every night. That's what I've tried to."
