A source close to the Denver Nuggets confirmed on Tuesday night that the team
is having discussions with Steve Blake and his agent about keeping
him in Denver. The source said the Nuggets are prepared to offer a "reasonable"
amount of money to keep the free agent point guard. However, the source was
not optimistic a deal with Blake would get done.
Miami, Portland, and the Los Angles Lakers are said to have interest in the
free agent guard. NBA sources have told Basketball News that Blake will likely
command close to the entire mid-level exception from any team that hopes
to sign him.
If they can't re-sign Blake, the Nuggets will likely look to the free agent
market for a point guard. Chucky Atkins and Brevin Knight are atop Denver's
list with Atkins still the leading candidate.
