Padres signed RHP Chad Qualls to a one-year, $1.5 million contract with
a club option for 2012.
Qualls registered a poor 7.32 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 59 innings last season
between stays with the Diamondbacks and Rays, but he's a candidate to bounce
back this year in a far more spacious ballpark. The club option for 2012
comes with a $1.05 million buyout, so he is guaranteed $2.55 million. He
will probably be fourth in line for saves out in San Diego.
