[情報] 2011 MLB.com's Top 50 Prospects: No. 23 Martin Perez,LHP
Martin Perez, LHP
2010 Rank: 18
Signed: July 2, 2007
ETA in Majors: 2012
Statistically speaking:
In Perez's five wins during 2010, he allowed 21 hits and seven earned runs
in 27 1/3 innings, giving him a .208 batting average against and a 2.31 ERA
in those five games. Over his 19 other outings, spanning 72 1/3 innings,
he yielded 96 hits and 59 earned runs, for a .317 BAA and a 7.34 ERA.
Scouting report:
He's not the biggest guy in the world, he's left-handed and he's from
Venezuela, so of course he gets compared to Johan Santana. Stuff-wise, he's
not far off, starting with a Santana-like changeup. He's got a plus curve
and his fastball can get up to 93-94 mph, so he's got the chance to have three
plus pitches. He did not command the ball well in 2010, but he has in the past.
Upside potential:
Perez pitched the 2010 season in Double-A at the age of 19, so he's still way
ahead of the curve and still could become one of the elite left-handed
starters in the big leagues.
They said it: "The stats line hasn't been stellar, but we've had scouts at
almost all of his starts and there has been a lot of progress as far as
throwing strikes, attacking hitters and staying with his secondary stuff. The
feedback from the scouts has been positive, and we're focused more on that
than the stats lines." -- Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine on Perez's winter
ball work
He said it: "It's not in your size, it's in your soul. [Santana] brings
everything he's got in there when he pitches. He performs like a giant and
does everything like a guy who is 6-5." -- on the comparisons he draws to
Johan Santana
