KANSAS CITY -- Royals third baseman Josh Fields will undergo labral surgery on his right hip and is expected to miss the season, manager Trey Hillman announced on Sunday. Fields has been training in Surprise, Ariz., since the end of Spring Training. "He was and is continuing to progress and his hip is getting better but, with enhanced studies and the opinion of [Dr. Marc] Philippon in Vail, Colo., he's elected to go ahead and get the surgery done now," Hillman said. "So he'll effectively be out for the season." Fields and second baseman Chris Getz were obtained from the Chicago White Sox in a trade for third baseman-outfielder Mark Teahen. Getz is also currently on the disabled list. The surgery on Fields will be performed by the same doctor who operated on Royals third baseman Alex Gordon and Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez last year. Fields played in 16 Spring Training games, but batted just .157 as he battled stiffness in his lower half, including his hip and quad.Ultimately he was unable to fill in for Gordon after he broke his thumb, or for Alberto Callaspo when he was out with a rib-cage injury. "You feel for him," Hillman said. "He's a hard worker, he's a tough guy...He'd like to have been in a position to step up and play third base, but his body wouldn't let him do it." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.167.104.145
