Valencia push for deal for Bordeaux defender Caneira

Valencia are locked in talks with Bordeaux over defender Marco Caneira.
The Portugal international is being lined up as Valencia's latest big
name signing following a successful summer which has seen Stefano Fiore and
Marco Di Vaio headline a raft of quality recruits.
Bordeaux are prepared to accept Valencia's offer of a season-long loan
for Caneira. But the stumbling block is that Valencia want a purchase option
written into the agreement, while Bordeaux want to have Caneira available to
them for season 2005/06.
Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud confirmed negotiations with Valencia
last night, admitting "a deal is likely to be agreed" and that "it is the
player's intention to leave, not the club's".
