Why Alex Rodriguez should move to center field
1. Let's face it, after the horrendous postseason he had, A-Rod needs a
hug. He desperately needs to feel wanted again. What better way to do that
than to make him the centerpiece of the organization, link him to the great
tradition of Mantle and DiMaggio. If that doesn't stoke him, nothing will.
2. Even his harshest critics will concede that A-Rod is the most gifted
all-around athlete on the Yankees. Which makes him the perfect fit for a
position that's all about speed and instincts and natural ability. With a
chance to stretch out those long, lean muscles sprinting into the gaps, he
might shine like never before.
3. Having to learn a new position for the second time in three seasons
might totally screw with A-Rod's head. But then again, since his head is
likely unscrewed anyway at this point, the switch could actually take his
mind off of the way he utterly botched things at third against the Angels in
the ALDS.
4. It's harder to drop a fly ball than misplay a grounder – although if
the game is big enough A-Rod might defy that rule.
5. Every dog needs a big backyard of grass in which to play and roam and
run. And the bigger the dog, the more space it needs.
