http://arod.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/players/rodriguez_alex/journal.jsp NOV. 30, 2005 Hi everyone! The last couple of weeks have been very special. My daughter had her first birthday and the AL MVP was announced. All in all, November has been a great month!! Thanks to all of you who e-mailed your congratulations and well wishes! The MVP notification process is nerve-wracking. If you are voted the league MVP, Jack O'Connell, the secretary/treasurer of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, calls to personally congratulate you. If you don't win, he doesn't call. I have been through this process several times over the years. I finished second two times (1996 and 2002), and third in 2000. The phone didn't ring those years. Then, in 2003 it finally happened. I was vacationing in Mexico, and could hardly believe it. I'll never forget that phone call! When I woke up on Nov. 14, I honestly didn't know if I would be selected. The past had taught me that you never know how the votes will fall. The media and fans were saying it would come down to David Ortiz and me. Well, David is a good friend. I love competing against and watching him play. He had a monster season. He truly is one of the elite players in the league, and a worthy candidate for this award. Finally, at around 11 a.m., the phone rang. It was Jack, who congratulated me on winning my second MVP Award. The results of the voting were made public at 2 p.m. ET. Shortly after that, I had a conference call with the Baseball Writers' Association of America, the organization that conducted the voting. After that, I called into some of the top New York sports radio talk shows -- Mike and The Mad Dog on WFAN and The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio. Then it was time for the television interviews. We decided to conduct all the interviews at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami. It was great to see the staff and all the kids there, who were very excited for me. I sat down with Candy Maldonado for an interview for ESPN Deportes. That was followed by ESPNEWS and ESPN Sportscenter. Then I did interviews with all the major network affiliates in New York and Miami. I ended the day with an interview by Mark Feinsand, who did a great story for this Web site. In between interviews, I fielded calls from my family, friends, former teammates and current teammates. I even got to speak with Mr. Steinbrenner, and after he congratulated me, I told him I was already fired up to help the Yankees bring a World Series championship back to the Bronx. It was well into the evening when the last interview was completed, and I capped off the night with a quiet dinner with Cynthia and some friends. The real celebrating however, took place later in the week. Natasha is a year old! I can't believe how fast this year went! We had a wonderful party with family and friends here in Miami. It was a great afternoon and I am glad I was able to be with my family on such a special occasion. Thank you again to all who took time to send messages of congratulations on winning the MVP. I appreciate your support, and enjoy hearing from all of you. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I certainly have a lot to be thankful for this year and I wish you and your families the best during this holiday season. I'll touch base again soon, Alex -- Wake Up, Right Now! -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.116.55.74
