DEC. 28, 2005
I can't believe how fast this year has flown by.
Well, the holiday season is in full swing and the Yankees just received a
wonderful gift in the form of Johnny Damon! I have known Johnny since high
school, when we played on traveling All-Star teams in Florida. I am thrilled
that we will be Yankee teammates! His presence at the top of the order means
Derek can now be the best No. 2 hitter in the game -- and set the table for
guys like myself, Sheff, Hideki, Jason Giambi, and the rest of the lineup. I
can't wait for Spring Training to get started -- pitchers and catchers in
less than two months!
I have been spending as much time as possible with my family and friends. We
spend time on our boat on the weekends and have hosted some dinner parties at
our new house. I have participated in a few photo sessions and commercial
production days for my marketing partners as well. Now we're busy with the
holidays.
The fourth annual AROD Classic basketball tournament was played on Dec. 8-10.
This year, two New York City area schools traveled to Miami to participate in
the tournament with six other South Florida schools. It was a great weekend!
We had three nights of basketball, with the competition going right down to
the wire. The final two games of the tournament (to decide first through
fourth places) both went into overtime, and the other games were decided by
less than five points each. In the end, Christopher Columbus H.S. (Miami)
defeated All Hallows H.S. (Bronx) for the championship.
I really enjoyed getting the chance to speak with the coaches and players on
all the teams. I also had the opportunity to have Miami legend and former
All-Pro NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar working with me to present this year's
event. I really want to thank all the rest of the sponsors who supported the
tournament: Mennen Speed Stick, Topps, Nike, Pepsi, Fuddruckers, Merrill
Lynch, Scott Boras Corporation, Morrison, Brown, Argiz and Farra, LLP and
Pilon Coffee.
On Dec. 13, Cynthia and I hosted a Christmas party ( Photo Gallery) for 200
children at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami. There was a DJ, face painting,
balloon animals, carnival games and lots of food and treats! We brought in
some very special guests -- Santa Claus and two of his elves. Cynthia and I
read "'Twas the Night Before Christmas," and each child received a gift bag.
We had a great time at the party and we're glad to have been able to spend
some time with the Club kids.
I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a happy
holiday. I hope you have a great New Year and may 2006 be a wonderful and
successful year for each of you.
I will be back in touch after the holidays. Thank you for all your support
during 2005.
Alex
