Mailbag: No shortage of opinions on A-Rod 對 A-Rod 的意見不會缺少 Beat writer Mark Feinsand answers Yankees fans' questions 原文:http://0rz.net/f11wg By Mark Feinsand / MLB.com 前言: Love him or hate him, I'll say one thing for Yankees fans: you all have a strong opinion about Alex Rodriguez. This week's mailbag was overflowing with e-mails about A-Rod, some defending the reigning American League MVP and others taking him to task for his recent slump. With that in mind, we'll devote this week's mailbag to address the third baseman and his current status as the most talked-about member of the Yankees. Why does the media make it look like Yankees fans hate A-Rod? I'm tired of all the negative comments about the play of A-Rod. I understand that he is under tremendous pressure, but come on, he is the reigning AL MVP. I want to hear these same critics when he has his usual second-half hot streak. I have full confidence that he is doing the best he can, and we need to be supporting him. He will go down as one of the greatest Yankees in history. Chris, since you live in Texas, I will assume you have not been to any games at Yankee Stadium this year. This isn't a media creation that the fans don't like A-Rod -- at least not the 50,000 coming to the ballpark every night. I have never heard a player of Rodriguez's stature take as much abuse from his home fans as A-Rod takes in the Bronx. Fans start booing him when he walks toward the plate. It's ridiculous. The last time I heard a player get booed like that by Yankees fans was Jeff Weaver, who would hear the jeers after giving up a two-out single in the first inning with nobody on base. For whatever reason, Yankees fans just don't like this guy. Maybe it will change if he leads them to a World Series, but I'm not sure. Will the booing of A-Rod ever stop? Yes, he is less than stellar at certain clutch times of games, but his numbers speak for themselves. He won the MVP last year and batted .330 in May, winning the AL Player of the Month honors. I firmly believe that the constant boos when he does not come through in clutch situations only makes the next clutch situation more difficult for him. Instead of letting him find his way out of a slump, the constant jeering of him will run him out of town when his contract is up. No player could stand the constant criticism and pressure that he endures. -- Matt C., Carlisle, Pa. Why are Yankees fans exhibiting self-destructive behavior by booing A-Rod? He was the MVP last year and carried the team on his back and helped us beat the Twins in the 2004 playoffs. They are killing his confidence and should encourage him instead. -- Elliot K., Flushing, N.Y. I chose these two e-mails to represent the faction of A-Rod supporters out there. Like fans of any team, you may not be happy with a player's performance all the time, but you realize that booing the life out of him probably won't make the situation any better. Rodriguez is one of the best players in the game, and by the time his career is over, he may go down as one of the best players in history. I think it's a little sad that some people won't really appreciate watching him play every day until it's too late. Did Rodriguez endure a terrible stretch in the first two weeks of June? Absolutely. No one can deny that, but I'd like someone to find me a player that never has a bad couple of weeks during a season. Unlikely. Why shouldn't George Steinbrenner and Brian Cashman start doing something in the best interest of the team and look for a trade to get some good starting pitching and maybe some prospects to put in their almost empty farm system? -- Nick G., Rutherford, N.J. Any chance the Yankees can move A-Rod? He has become a liability in pressure situations. I've never seen anyone who routinely comes up short in clutch situations nearly every time. In fact, I do not think it's a stretch to label A-Rod as an "easy out" in big games. Not only does he not produce runs in those situations but his fielding in big games lacks confidence, and he either commits errors or misses plays that he routinely makes. I would suggest the Yankees consider trading him in this post MVP year to get the most possible value for him before he declines further. -- Pat M., Weston, Conn. First of all, I'll repeat something we've gone over before. Rodriguez has a no-trade clause, so the Yankees can't trade him unless he agrees to it. After everything that went down to get him to New York, I can't see that happening. This idea that Rodriguez can't produce in New York, whether it's the pressure, the presence of Jeter, or whatever theory of the week fans want to produce, is simply ridiculous. Rodriguez won the MVP award last year. That must have come from putting up some decent numbers, right? How can anybody say that he isn't able to produce in this town? His 2004 season was below expectations, and he still hit 36 homers and drove in 106 runs. Also, Rodriguez has had several game-winning hits this season, so the whole un-clutch thing is utter nonsense, too. One of them even came against Boston, which makes it even more amazing to me that people write him off the way they do. Is there a chance that the Yankees will look to trade A-Rod for someone like Miguel Cabrera of the Marlins? -- Michael O., New York City 回覆: This is my favorite. I love the e-mails that offer up some trade that would never happen. Johan Santana, Roy Oswalt, Francisco Liriano, Cabrera, Ryan Howard ... the list goes on and on with players that some people want the Yankees to go out and get. Johan Santana 、 Roy Oswalt 、 Francisco Liriano 、 Cabrera 、 Ryan Howard ... Why would any of these teams -- especially a cash-strapped team such as the Marlins -- deal a young superstar who won't be cashing in with a fat contract for a few more years? Do you think the Marlins would take on A-Rod's contract, even just the portion the Yankees pay? Come on, people. Let's get realistic when it comes to these trade e- mails. A-Rod isn't going anywhere. Neither is Cabrera -- at least not yet. Mark Feinsand is a reporter for MLB.com.
