NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez's agent said the New York Yankees' third baseman is pleased that Joe Torre is staying on as manager.
Torre dropped A-Rod to eighth in the batting order last weekend in Detroit, where the Tigers eliminated the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs.
"I don't think he cares where the manager puts him," agent Scott Boras said Wednesday. "Alex has a good relationship with Joe Torre. I don't think there was any question in Alex's mind that Joe was coming back."
Rodriguez went 1-for-14 in the Yankees' four-game loss and hasn't driven in a run in the postseason since 2004.
"He felt that the Detroit pitching staff the last three games, that all of them had some of the best games of their careers," Boras said.
The criticism surrounding Rodriguez reached a tipping point following his latest unsuccessful postseason, but Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that the beleaguered former MVP would not be traded.
"I fully expect him to be here," Cashman said Tuesday. "We're going to figure this thing out together."
Rodriguez, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, struggled during his third season with the Yankees and was booed throughout the year by fans at Yankee Stadium. Cashman revealed that teams inquired about Rodriguez's availability up until the July 31 deadline to make trades without waivers.
Rodriguez hit .290 with 35 homers and 121 RBI, and his 24 errors were the most among AL third basemen.
