The Legacy Award, sponsored by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, honors the game's best players in various categories with bronze statues that carry the likeness and names of stars from "black baseball." "Each year the game brings new stars to the forefront," said Bob Kendrick, marketing director of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. "I think that's the beauty of the game. So I'm very excited about some of the folks who are first-time recipients of these awards." The most prized of those awards is the Charleston Legacy, which a Yankee (Derek Jeter) and a Phillie (Ryan Howard) won a year ago. A-Rod hit his 500th homer this season and also led the Majors in RBIs. In the eight years of the Legacy Awards, he has won awards in various categories a total of nine times.
