NEW YORK -- After tying Reggie Jackson for 11th on the all-time homer list,
Alex Rodriguez didn't wait long to pass him.
Rodriguez launched a two-run homer, the 564th of his career, in the eighth
inning of Friday's game against the Mets at Citi Field to take sole possession
of 11th place on the all-time list.
Rodriguez had hit No. 563 on Thursday against the Braves off Derek Lowe.
With one out and Mark Teixeira on first, Rodriguez drove a pitch off reliever
Elmer Dessens to right-center field that easily cleared the 415-foot sign and
landed in the Mets' bullpen. Rodriguez has now hit 16 home runs in his past 16
games against the Yankees' crosstown rivals after not hitting one in his first
19 career games against them.
