Nadia Petrova has a new ritual to celebrate victories, which includes
flexing her arm for the crowd.
She tried out the routine Tuesday on center court at the French Open after
beating Russian compatriot Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
``I did it against Monica (Seles) in the first round, and I'll keep on
doing it now,'' Petrova said. ``I'm not afraid to let my emotions go on
court. It really helps. Sometimes I can scream and really make a crowd
go crazy after a good point.''
With her latest win, Petrova became the first female Russian semifinalist
at the French Open since Olga Morozova in 1975.
Next up: Belgian Kim Clijsters on Thursday.
``I grew up in juniors together with her, and we have a good friendship,
'' Petrova said. ``I think it's going to be an enjoyable match.''
Petrova turns 21 on June 8, the day after the women's final. Clijsters
turns 20 the same day.
