Maria Sharapova There was an element of relief on Maria Sharapova's face. She took a big sigh when she hit a backhand crosscourt winner on her fourth match point against Justine Henin-Hardenne. It secured her a place in the semifinals of the NASDAQ-100 Open for the first time. Sharapova turned to her entourage in the player's box and raised her arms in victory. After two hours, 18 minutes the score was 6-1, 6-7, 6-2. Sharapova had the opportunity to close out the match in straight sets when she served for it at 5-4 in the second and had 40-0. But if there is one thing that rings true in tennis, even after nine months away from the game, it's that you never, ever ignore the Belgian till the umpire calls "game, set, match". Not to say that Sharapova did look ahead, but the lesson would have been well emphasized. "She's a top player. She's been a top player," said Sharapova following her first ever meeting with Henin-Hardenne. "Even when she's been gone I think she's very anxious to get back. Those people can be dangerous because they want to give all they've got out there. I was expecting a really tough match. It ca me out to be really tough. "She's a great all-around player. She hits a lot of balls back and you have to hit one extra shot. That's one thing that I wanted to make sure, I was ready for every ball." At the end of the second set tiebreak which Henin won 8-6, Sharapova required treatment on her back from the trainer. She says it has been bothering her for a short while and after a lot of long points that involved a lot of movement, she felt it was getting tighter as the match went on. She said she was having a bit of difficulty serving but after a bit of manipulation she continued and tried to forget about it. Sharapova said it was important for her to regroup mentally after not closing out the second set and squandering the three match points. She told herself that she had been playing well till then so why couldn't she just pick that up again? She did and went on to win. But for Henin-Hardenne this week has been a huge boost for her. This was the Belgian's first tournament since last September's US Open and she was very happy with the way she has performed and is very encouraged. "I think it's been great fight, it was good match," said Henin-Hardenne. "It's long time I didn't play this level so I needed a little bit of time to get used to this rhythm and everything. She was playing great in the first but I wasn't aggressive enough. "Then I saved three match points, played unbelievable tennis at the end of the second set. In the third set, both of us were pretty tired. "But what I did after seven months off, it's good. I mean, it's very good for the future. I showed that I'm back. I'm so happy to be back on the courts. I know I need matches, I need more competition, but it's very good for the next tournaments." So while Henin-Hardenne reflects on her positive return, Sharapova's mind switches to the semifinal. "You just have to go out and you have to play," she said. "I try to focus on my game rather than thinking what's their strength or their weaknesses or what I have to do. I mean, you know, just focus on myself." http://www.nasdaq-100open.com/news/pr/news21614.html ==== 原來第二盤又凸槌.....幸好還是贏了 希望莎娃身體沒有大礙唷。 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.119.141.211
