After reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros
earlier in the year, Anna Chakvetadze wanted more – although you'd never know
it after listening to her speak following her 6-4, 6-1 victory against No. 18
seed Shahar Peer.
"You know, I should be so excited about it, but I think just pretty normal like
always. Of course, it's a big match, it's a big win, and I'm so happy to be in
the semifinal. But I'm just thinking about the next match," said Chakvetadze.

This tunnel-vision mentality may be the biggest reason for Chakvetadze's
first-ever appearance in a Grand Slam semifinal. The 20-year-old Russian is
known for being extremely focused on court, playing with a no-nonsense approach
that has worked wonders for her this year. When serving, Anna is often ready to
toss the ball before her opponent is even in a ready position; when playing,
it's Chakvetadze's consistent groundstrokes that they can't keep up with.

Today's quarterfinal against Peer was just another example of Chakvetadze
playing like she has throughout 2007 – a year in which she has won four titles
and has risen to No. 6 in the world. Anna took care of her first serve today,
winning 62 percent of her first-serve points compared to Peer's 35 percent.
Chakvetadze also took advantage of the openings presented to her, breaking Peer
five times on the day. Toss in Anna's 19 winners, and you have a quick exit for
Peer, who came into this match brimming with confidence.

到世界第六,她今天一發贏球率62%比Peer的35%好很多.今天也破了Peer五個發球局.並且有

"I just had to play smart and not easy and not rush myself. So, yeah, then I
just started to do less mistakes, easy mistakes, you know. And on the other
side, also, I was aggressive, especially on the second set. That's why I think
I won it so easy," said Chakvetadze.
恰妹說,她今天必須得聰明的打球,因為不容易,所以盡量不慌不忙.慢慢去減少自己的失誤,
特別是很簡單的錯誤,另一方面,她也打得更具侵略性,特別在第二盤,這是她覺得今天能贏
球的關鍵.
In her five matches at Flushing Meadows, Chakvetadze hasn't dropped a set.
She"ll face countrywoman Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semifinals, whom she's
played twice but has never beaten. If Chakvetadze continues to play like she
has so far, it will be an extremely difficult challenge, even for the
higher-ranked Kuznetsova.tomorrow.
