Final judgment on Mexes affair

AS Roma will be banned from making any signings during the January
transfer window after the conclusion of the dispute over Philippe
Mexes's move from AJ Auxerre.
Final judgment
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) made a final judgment on
the long-running quarrel between the two clubs, ordering Roma to
pay the French side €7m for the 23-year-old defender's services
and decreeing that Roma's FIFA transfer ban would end at the close
of the January window.
Controversial move
In summer 2004, the French international agreed a four-year deal
with the Italian giants while still under contract at Auxerre.
Mexes claimed he was able to move for €4m, citing a clause in his
Auxerre contract, but the Ligue 1 team disputed that fact, bringing
the case to FIFA.
