From：http://tinyurl.com/og9w4 　Roma sees itself behind Inter in revamped Serie A 　Posted: Friday Jul 21, 2006 11:46 AM 　CASTELROTTO, Italy (AP) -AS Roma could find itself battling Inter 　Milan for the Serie A title this season with the other big clubs facing penalties and relegation. 　Coach Luciano Spalletti still sees his club struggling to keep up with Inter. "It's tough to talk about goals because there are strong teams, like Inter. They're talking about acquiring (Luca) Toni and (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic, without giving away Adriano and (Julio Ricardo) Cruz," Spalletti said Friday. "That makes it tough to play even with them." Perennial contender AC Milan will start the Serie A season with a 15-point penalty for a corruption scandal, while three clubs - Juventus, Fiorentina and Lazio - were relegated with penalties to Serie B. Roma and Inter were not involved, so have been turned into the main contenders for the Serie A title. Roma's team is based around three members of Italy's winning World Cup squad: midfielders Simone Perrotta and Daniele De Rossi, and playmaker Francesco Totti. After undergoing left leg surgery in February, Totti struggled with his form at the World Cup. He and the other Azzurri members are still on vacation and were allowed to skip Roma's summer training camp. The team hopes Totti is back to full form by the time the season starts on Aug. 26-27. Striker Vincenzo Montella is also trying to regain his form from a back injury. "We're looking for a striker. It's becoming difficult to take a striker from Juve, Milan or Inter, because that would break the balance of things," Spalletti said, adding that the club is interested in Udinese's Vincenzo Iaquinta and Lecce's Mirko Vucinic. "Iaquinta is a muscular player who uses his strength, Vucinic is a more technical player who relies on ball possession. What I'm interested in though is getting Montella back," Spalletti said. Midfielder Damiano Tommasi announced last week that he was leaving the club after 10 seasons. "It would be tough for him to change his mind, although I have the feeling that he made the decision too quickly," Spalletti said. "I'm upset, because with people like him around it makes everything easier." Spalletti sounded excited about the squad's new French central midfielder Ricardo Faty. Roma signed the 19-year-old from Strasbourg earlier this month and he is considered as a possible replacement for Olivier Dacourt, who has moved to Inter. "Faty seems like an interesting player. The likes of Roma and Internazionale appear best placed to capitalise on the huge upheaval which has also seen the Giallorossi's rivals for a European place last term, Fiorentina and city rivals Lazio, demoted. "We are aware that we could have a big chance next season and we will do our best," said Spalletti. "But Inter are ahead of us at the moment, while Palermo and Udinese are also good sides." To that end, Spalletti is determined to bolster his squad further this summer, with the recruitment of striker Mirko Vucinic reported to be his number one objective.
