Totti On FIFA Snub: What More Could I Do?
The Giallorossi captain had one of the most outstanding year’s of his
career, finishing top-scorer in Serie A and winning the European Golden Boot.
However along with other seemingly valid candidates, such as Zlatan
Ibrahimovic, David Villa and Luca Toni, he was overlooked by the bosses at
FIFA.
“What more could I do?” asked Totti.
“I won the European Golden Boot and I was top-scorer in the Italian
championship.
“Furthermore Roma came second in Serie A, we won the Coppa Italia and the
Italian Supercup. I also made may mark in the Champions League. I don’t know.
”
Totti’s exclusion has led to widespread condemnation of the FIFA
organisation, with many also remembering how the votes were collected to
decide the 2006 FIFA World Cup Player of the Tournament.
The choices were made during half-time of the final in Berlin, thus handing
the award to Zinedine Zidane, even though the Frenchman was later sent-off
for head-butting Italy’s Marco Materazzi.
