Representatives of billionaire George Soros reportedly met with Roma officials last week, only to have a bid of between ￡160m and ￡200m rejected amid interest from a third, possibly Arab, party. Italpetroli today moved to reject those reports and quash rumours that a proposal has even been received, let alone rejected. 「Not one offer has been formalised on the behalf of a foreign subject. Therefore, all the reports that have appeared in the Press in the last few days regarding the rejection of an offer are without foundation. 「Italpetroli would like to take this opportunity to confirm, contrary to how much has been reported, that we have not received an offer from the Royal Family of the Arab Emirates. 「Nor has there been any contact with their delegates with respect to the sale of our controlling stake,」 announced an official statement.
