According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma are set to propose a swap deal to
Barcelona which will see Amantino Mancini and Eric Abidal swap clubs.
Brazilian winger Mancini is virtually certain to leave Roma, as he is
refusing to sign a renewal to his contract that runs out next year.
In order to risk losing the 28-year-old on a free transfer, the Giallorossi
will cash in on him this summer. A host of top clubs including Juventus,
Inter and Liverpool have all been linked with a move, as have Barcelona.
The Corriere says that Roma are prepared to do business with the Blaugrana,
if they include Eric Abidal in exchange.
French full back Abidal only joined Barca last summer from Lyon for €15m,
and has a contract until 2011, however he has struggled badly in his first
season in Spanish football.
Roma are on the lookout for a left back, as they currently have just one
member in their senior squad who can naturally play the position, 33-year-old
veteran Max Tonetto.
Coach Luciano Spalletti sees Abidal as the ideal reinforcement for the role,
however the Frenchman would have to take a pay cut in order to make the move
happen.
