Panucci joined the Giallorossi back in 2001, and has since gone on to make more than 200 Serie A appearances for the club, winning two Coppa Italia’s along the way. Despite now being 35, Panucci is still in good form and shape, and indeed he was one of Italy’s most impressive players at Euro 2008. The stopper’s contract with Roma runs out at the end of the season, and so far there have been no talks over a renewal, but the player’s agent Oscar Damiani says things should become clearer over the next week or so. "There's no news on the renewal of Panucci’s contract,” Damiani told Romanews.eu. “We have not yet been granted a meeting with Roma. But this week we will hear from the Giallorossi and we will see what to do." Panucci was strongly linked with a move back to his old club Milan over the summer, with reports suggesting that the Rossoneri were ready to hand him a two year contract. This transfer never materialised, and it remains to be seen whether Panucci’s future in Rome extends past the current campaign. The captain and talisman has played for the club all his career, making his debut in 1993. His current deal expires in 2010 and he is ready to extend it by five more seasons, earning the same salary in the process. He will continue to earn € 5.5m per season and will pen a new deal until 2014. Totti is expected to extend his contract by the end of this term and it would mean a 25 year career with the Giallorossi by the time he hangs up his boots. Er Pupone has made almost 400 appearances for the club, scoring over 200 goals in the process. The playmaker is currently recovering from injury and he should be back in action for the game against Palermo in week two of the Serie A season. The 2006 World Cup winner’s extension is just what the tifosi wanted. The club have never feared losing their man to other teams as he has always pleaded allegiance to the Roma cause and he recently stated that he would retire there. The Italian international’s current deal expires in 2010 but the club have so far failed to get him to sign on for the future. Speculation that he would leave was rife all summer but the Giallorossi have now finally decided to make their player’s future safe. Tuttomercatoweb claims that Aquilani will sit down with his agent and father alongside Roma directors Bruno Conti and Daniele Prade in order to work towards an agreement. Reports claim the player’s salary, currently €2.2m per season, will be doubled and Roma will offer him a four year deal. The club need to move quick and ensure Aquilani pens a new contract because they could risk losing him on a free transfer. Roma fought off big money offers this summer with the idea of keeping him and they would be furious if he left on a Bosman. The club are hoping to challenge for the Scudetto and Champions League and keeping Aquilani would represent a major achievement given the fact that he could have joined Juventus, Inter and Real Madrid in the summer.
