Francesco Totti will be presented with the prestigious Silver ball for being
the most fair player of the 2007/08 season in Serie A before the game against
Reggina this weekend.
The club are currently going through a mid season crisis but this latest
award is likely to bring a few smiles to some faces.
Roma have the chance to bounce back against the Calabrians this weekend but
before the game kicks off, captain and talisman Totti will receive the Silver
ball.
The prize is an award for “the most correct player and for football talent,
sporting correctness, good morality and for the generosity towards the weak.”
Totti will be the second Roma player to win the award after Damiano Tommasi.
Previous winners include Paolo Negro who won it for Lazio, Javier Zanetti for
Inter, Ciro Ferrara Juventus, Andriy Shevchenko for Milan.
Gianfranco Zola won the award in 2003 for Cagliari. Luca Toni also won the
Silver ball for Fiorentina following his one season wonder and Kaka received
the prize for his outstanding 2006/07 season with Milan.
The Giallorossi have got off to a poor start both at home and in Europe but
Totti will be hoping to mark the occasion by leading his side to glory when
the Amaranto come to town.
