Surgery for goalkeeper Doni
Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni will be out for three months after deciding to
go under the knife.
The shot-stopper has been sidelined for several weeks now with a knee problem
and visited Professor Marc Maertens for a specialist consultation in Antwerp.
The club released a statement this afternoon confirming that “a cartilage
problem in his right knee” was diagnosed.
“Professor Maertens recommended keyhole surgery to correct the problem.”
Although the official statement does not say how long he will be out for,
reports suggest such an operation would mean three months on the sidelines.
It is a heavy blow for the Giallorossi, who have handed the gloves to
Brazilian Artur.
If Doni is out for a long period of time, it is possible Roma will move for a
new goalkeeper, as they have been linked with Palermo’s Marco Amelia.
A former Roma youth product who has said he would be happy to return to his
hometown club, Amelia is Italy’s second choice behind Gianluigi Buffon.
