Made an absolute pivotal save early on to deny Huggel from point-blank range.
Made a few more crucial saves when Basel were attacking in waves, but he did
flap at Stocker’s cross which allowed the Swiss back into the game.
Marco Cassetti 6.0
A busy day in the office at the back. Had to work hard to shackle Stocker and
Safari but gave them too much space to work at times.
Juan1 6.5
Kept Streller quiet in the first half and mopped up whatever got past his
defensive partner Burdisso. But he was not alert enough when he allowed Frei
to ghost in behind him to score Basel’s first.
Nicolas Andres Burdisso 7.5
Strong in the air to cut out crosses and showed great positioning to intercept
passes on the ground. Had to make way late in the game for his brother
Guillermo because of an injury.
John Arne Riise 6.5
Only allowed to burst forward on a couple of occasions as he had to keep
Shaqiri and Inkoom quiet. Like Cassetti on the opposite flank, he, too, gave
too much space and time for his opponents to deliver crosses. Did win the
penalty for his side.
Jérémy Menez 7.0
Put Roma in front with a clinical strike and his driving run led to the penalty
won by Riise which gave Roma an early two-goal cushion. Disappeared in the
second half as Roma had to put men behind the ball.
Daniele De Rossi 6.0
Lingered just in front of his backline in the first half to make sure they were
well protected. Played in a more advanced position in the second period and
provided some lovely passes over the Basel defence.
Fabio Henrique Simplicio 6.5
Hard worker. Did well to shield and hold up the ball to buy time for his
team-mates to regroup when they were under pressure.
Simone Perrotta 6.5
A fiery performance from the midfielder. Won possession a few times in the
attacking half, but couldn't create anything out of it.
Francesco Totti 6.5
Attempted a few through passes that didn’t quite find his target. Had a
calming effect for his team every time he had the ball, especially in the
latter stages of the game, but not one of his better outings, despite scoring
from a penalty.
Mirko Vucinic 6.0
Drifted in and out of the game. Should have scored late in the first half on
the counter-attack but took too long to make up his mind what to do. Dropped
too deep too often, leaving Roma without a target man to aim for.

Scored with his first touch on the pitch after he pounced on a loose ball
following good work by Borriello.
Marco Borriello 6.5
Brought on for Vucinic and immediately made his presence felt. Showed good
trickery to beat two defenders to pave the way for Greco to score the crucial
third goal.
