Getting to know...Australia's No 1 Samantha Stosur Samantha Stosur finished the 2010 season as world No 6 after reaching her first ever grand slam final at the French Open. The Australian tells Telegraph Sport how her next-door neighbour encouraged her to take up the sport and how packing and unpacking is the only drawback of life on tour. After having a couple of really good years playing doubles and making it to No 1, it does take a little bit of focus away and you’re always at the end of tournaments with doubles meaning you can’t prepare as well for the next singles event. I maybe had to tweak what I was doing a little bit, but I wouldn’t change the way I’ve done it, you do things for a reason and I’ve had lots of great memories on the doubles court. Q.你認為自己在雙打領域取得佳績後，轉為專注於單打的決定是正確的? A.我在雙打領域有兩年有不錯的表現，還讓我登上女雙排名世界第一，那的確會有點分散我的注意力，因為若你總是在每個巡迴賽上參加雙打，而且打到最後，當你面對下個單打賽事時，就無法準備的那麼周到。或許當時我可以想辦法兼顧(單雙打)得更好，但時光無法倒流，我現在這麼做，主要是我在雙打已經有許多很棒的回憶了。 You had an incredible run to the French Open final, beating Serena Williams, Jelena Jankovic and Justine Henin. Were you affected by being the favourite against Francesca Schiavone? Maybe it was a different scenario to those other three matches, but I think at the end of the day Francesca played a fantastic match. She obviously had her game plan and she executed it absolutely 100 per cent. Maybe I was a little bit tighter, but it is a grand slam final so you never really know how you’re going to react to that. Yes it’s hard to work on being able to handle pressure situations but you can ’t work on that on a practice court. You have to win matches to get yourself to that point to be able to prepare for it. When you start doing it more often it definitely becomes easier to handle, and you can analyse things a bit better. Q.處理在大比賽中的壓力，需要時間和經驗的累積嗎? No, not really. It’s a good spot to be in. You want to be the best you can be, and if that ends up being the best in your country, then that’s the way it is. I always feel like they’re behind me and supporting me, especially playing in Australia or at the Australian Open. Q.身為澳洲第一女選手，你有感受更多來自家鄉的壓力嗎? My next door neighbour gave me a racket for Christmas when I was about eight years-old and I just always enjoyed playing. I begged my older brother to go down to the local courts with me and play. Since I was about 10 I said I wanted to be professional and be No 1 in the world and win a grand slam. They were my dreams as a little kid and I guess now I’m able to live it. Steffi Graf and Monica Seles were my idols. My parents took my whole family to Melbourne for the 1992 Australian Open final which was between Steffi and Monica. I watched the whole match and didn’t leave my seat. I wanted to be there and was so lucky that mum and dad could do it. Q.你的網球偶像是? I just always thought that this is what I would be doing. Maybe I would have gone to uni and kept studying. Who knows what sort of job I ’d have. I’m glad that I don’t have to think about that. Q.若不打網球，妳會從事什麼職業? A.我完全不曉得耶。我常覺得網球是我的終身職志，如果沒打的話，可能會上大學或繼續唸書吧。誰曉得我會將來會做什麼工作，我很開心自己不用去煩惱這件事。 What is the best and worst thing about being a professional tennis player? There’s lots of best things. We get to travel the world and see so many different places. I’ve met some wonderful people along the way at tournaments who welcome you into their home and you stay in touch with them. The negatives? I think maybe early on at the start of your career when you’ re doing the hard yards - but it gives you motivation to get better. Packing and unpacking bags are two of my least favourite things on the planet and I have to do them every week, but that’s the way it goes. Q.成為職業網球選手最棒和最糟的事? Being in the French Open final and winning my second title in Charleston. There’s lots of matches that I could individually pick out, but I think results-wise that’s it. Q.你2010最精采的表現是? A.確定你能享受網球比賽的樂趣，打出你最好的狀態，因為你永遠不知道最終會得到什麼獎賞。 What has been your most embarrassing moment on court? I don’t know, I haven’t really done anything that stupid this year, I don’ t think. Maybe when you bounce a ball in anger and it comes back and hits you in the face, that’s not good. Q.你在球場上最尷尬的時刻? A.我不曉得耶，我覺得今年我還沒做出任何蠢事。可能會發生在，當你拉拍把球打出角度，但球卻飛回來打中妳的臉，那的確蠻糗的。 Where and what will you be doing during the off-season break? I’ll go home to the Gold Coast and take a break. Then I’m going to go on holiday somewhere. I’ll start training again in late November. I’ve spent the last four or five years doing my pre-season training in Sydney. Q.賽程結束的這段時間，你會去哪?做些什麼?
